Gift Guide, 7 Gifts for the Stay at Home Mom

I’ve been the corporate mom and am now a stay at home mom and this is a list of things I have or would like. It’s not just items but things you can do to make your stay at home mom feel special.

  1. A great pair of comfortable shoes. Comfortable but stylish let’s say 65% comfort and 35% style. My choice would be my Supergas, they’re stylish (well for walking / everyday shoes) and they’re comfortable. Mine are pictured below.
  2. All her Favourite treats to nibble on during the day – nuts, choccies, biscuits, candies (all those unhealthy things) or maybe health bars, goji berries, veggie chips (I’ve heard these healthy things can be nice).
  3. A cleaner for a few hours during the day. This will help take off some of the strain of cleaning, washing and ironing. It’s best to get a referral from someone you know so that you know that they are good and a will add peace of mind not detract from it.
  4. A babysitter for the evening for her to go out with her husband or her girlfriends. I came across one of these services the other day at a baby expo – for website link click here. I haven’t tried them so can’t attest to them.
  5. Make her dinner. You can get a printable voucher and fill it in for her.
  6. Take her out for a drink – either a cocktail or a cup of tea. A cocktail is always good if it has a stunning view and a cup of tea / coffee is always good if it comes with a piece of cake 😉
  7. Something stunning from her favourite clothes shop. Shopping is a novelty when you’ve got kids. I would go with a nice shirt, jersey, scarf or good jeans because as a mom you spend most of your life in casual clothes and only buy stuff if it’s on sale and you happen to walk past it while shopping for the kids or your husband. I love Zara, Mango, Forever New and Banana Republic.

Gift Guide: 7 Gifts for the Fit Mom

I am no fitness expert but my two sisters are and my husband has been known to run / cycle and swim so I do know what to buy …

  1. If the gym bag is older than 3 years, it’s time for a new bag (according to my expert relations). Great gym bags can be snapped up at any sports store. Easy peasy. Of course you would want to add a cute sports bottle and towel too.
  2. Lulu Lemon Align pants. These are incredible yoga pants, exercise pants and just-wanna-stay-on-the-couch pants!  You can buy online or in store. There are a few outlets around. The one we have exhausted is at Homebush DFO.
  3. Earphones for running. There are a lot of factors to consider when buying earphones – price, sound quality, fit, style and device with which they work – so it may be best to get a gift card for them to be self-purchased if no you can check out the following brands Bose (Link to in-ear earphones here), JayBird Bluebuds X (can buy online here) or Yurbuds (powered by JBL: link here ) there are a number reviews online about each.
  4. A crazy cool yoga mat. There are some seriously funky designs out there – why use the studios or the typical purple or turquoise from Target when you can get something super snazzy. has some nice stuff.    You can even get a double-sided one from    or a personalized one from etsy.
  5. If you’re going big, there is always the watch. The sports watch. My family are big supporters of the Garmin but there is also the Suunto. For runners the new TomTom Runner 2 Cardio which has got some good reviews. But I would do some more research on watches as this is a big gift and you want to make sure you know that it is perfect for the gift-reviewer.
  6. Classes – cross-fit / yoga / Pilates or training sessions.
  7. A wind cheater or warm exercise top specially for exercising Nike always has pretty cool ones. These keep you warm but allow a lot of movement. The ones in the picture are Nike Element Half Zip.

Gift Guide: 7 Gifts for the Home Entertainer Mom

I love buying homewares of any sort but it drives my husband nuts so I have to rely on presents – giving and receiving – to satisfy my addiction.

Here are some ideas of things I love and own or wish I had.

  1. I love flowers and I feel as though other people who love home decor and entertaining do too. They bring so much life and emotion into whatever space you put them in and it is always awesome to receive flowers.
  2. Little serving bowls, perfect for when you’re having a cocktail party or a dinner or just hanging out at home and are looking for something for olives, condiments, nuts, fruit or little nibbles to go into. I own some very plain ones from Maxwell and Williams and then some lovely little whale ones (I love a beach theme but understand if they’re not for everyone). These below, from are so stylish.
  3. Candles or a diffuser – there are some beautiful candles / diffusers out there. My Favourite brands at the moment are  Circa Home, The Aromatherapy Co, Beach House and Peppermint Grove.
  4. Decent serving spoons or salad serves. Not ones that are plastic or from the grocery store’s limited homewares or kitchen section but lovely ones catered to her taste. I have some gorgeous Carrol Boyes ones from South Africa which I just love. You can order the online from the Carrol Boyes website.
  5. A magnificent light reflecting or a beautifully simple glass vase. There are so many vases but so many are tacky. You either want a heavy vase that makes a statement without absorbing all light around it making spaces feel smaller and darker or you want something with clear lines that lets the flowers talks. My favorites are a heavy crystal one my husband bought me which refracts light everywhere and a plain glass cheaply one we bought for about a $1.

Gift Guide: 7 Gifts for the Woman who is always cold

This is me in a nutshell, I am always freezing so I’m kinda in the know on this topic.

  1. Stylish coffee mug set with coffee pods / instant coffee sachets and cake in a cup (love the latter as I’ve just discovered it). Anthropologie in the US and Bed Bath ‘n Table in Aus and @Home has some great coffee cups.
  2. An amazingly fluffy bath robe. In SA I would again look at Woolworths and in Aus I would got with this from Peter Alexander–1  which is pictured below.
  3. Leather gloves, lined of course.
  4. Warm UGG slippers or boots.
  5. Scarf or pashmina. If you’re reading this in South Africa Wollies has the best quality ones at a great price.  Below is an assortment of Mimco, Woolworths, Trenery and Country Road.
  6. Superdry windcheater with a hood, if you can find one. Link to the one I have and love
  7. A beautiful blanket or throw but… But if this is a gift for your wife maybe don’t get her a blanket unless she has a definite love of blankets and throws.

Gift Guide: 7 Great Books

I love reading and below are a few that I have enjoyed over the years – these are just a few which cover a different tastes. I have hundreds of suggestions on offer (should anyone be interested ☺️).

  1. Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts is beautiful. It is long and may take some time to get into but it is well worth it.
  2. For the rock ‘n roll fundie or child of the 80s or 90s – Scar Tissue, the autobiography of Anyhony Kiedis is insane. It is amazing that the man is still alive.
  3. For incredible writing it’s almost visual An Artist of the Floating World is a good buy.  Any book by Kazuo Ishiguro is amazing.
  4. For a South African original Disgrace by JM  Coetzee is not only enlightening but gut wrenching.
  5. Another beautiful story is Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden although I doubt any serious reader would not have read this. Sidebar – the movie is as beautiful as the book which is never the case so it’s worth a look.
  6. Interesting and wonderfully told is The Book Thief  by Markus Zusak.
  7. For those who enjoy a spy book a good read is The Spy Who Came in From the Cold. John le Carre knows his stuff and getting hooked on his books is easy to do.

Hope this are helpful and enjoyable.

Gift guide: 7 gifts for the Haute Couture Woman

  1. A Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar subscription. You can get magazines delivered or the e-subscription. In Australia you can get either subscriptions at (I’m not sure if this is a good price or not though). In the States purchase Harpers directly from the website and for Vogue
  2. Grace: A Memoir by Grace Coddington. She is the creative director at American Vogue, a former model and fashion genius! The book retails off for about $22.
  3. The Manolo Blaniks from Sex and the City, can easily be purchased from
  4. A handbag from the all new Gucci range  summer / spring 2015 range. These are so unique and will be reminder of this year for time to come.
  5. An Hermes scarf. Retailing from about US$400 these pure silk scarves are absolutely magnificent. There are so many different types to choose from and the patterns are so intoxicating it’s like being a kid in a candy store and a picture just wouldn’t do it justice!
  6. Something to add sparkle to everyday items – from Louis Vuitton you can get a bag charm or key holder from A$215.
  7. Rainboots from burberry. I swear by the shorter boots, they are amazing and look good with a multitude of things. Just gotta wear thick warm socks.

Gift Guide: 7 gifts for the Health and Beauty mom

  1. Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, it’s amazing.
  2. A Body Shop or Crabtree and Evelyn or L’Occitane gift pack. Just make sure it’s a nice variety.
  3. I always say it but a mani, pedi, massage or facial is an excellent gift. Not only do you feel spoilt but you feel so beautiful afterwards. It’s a gift that gives twice, first when you open it and second when you actually go.
  4. A new hair dryer or GHD. I love my GHD hair dryer to pieces and have not had any issue with it.
  5. Dermalogica barrier repair is amazing, so small and so amazing!!
  6. Perfume is a special buy but there are some goodies that I like: Cerutti 1881, Issey Miyake L’Eau D’Issey Florale, Burberry Body, Valentino Valentina, Chanel Chance, Viktor and Rolf Flower Bomb or Calvin Klein Euphoria.
  7. Make up brushes, a good set from MAC or Bobbi Brown is a real treat. You want to make sure you get a good set that allows her to put on her eye make-up, foundation and blush.

Gift Guide: 7 gifts for the Baking Mom

  1. Every baker needs an apron and as I’ve learnt some good kitchen gloves. You can get a gorgeous pair from any home shop or online. I love   almost everything from Bed Bath and Table here in Australia. You get so many styles you could spend forever looking.
  2. A cake stand. It’s the type of thing you rarely buy but often use. You can get glass, ceramic or even wood.
  3. Personalized recipe book, I’ve seen some amazing ones in South Africa and in Australia so I’m sure you can get them pretty much anywhere. For UK readers there is an awesome one on and for readers in the States, Etsy has quite a few too.
  4. If you’re going to go big then go for a Kitchen Aid, my mom is from the Kenwood club but my Kitchen Aid is awesome and so quiet so I can bake when the kids are asleep. And they come in such pretty colours.
  5. A baking class, I often see classes on sale on GroupOn, either for cup cake decorating cake making or chocolate making.
  6. I love love le creuset and thanks to my mom-in-law I’ve garnered quite a collection. I love my mixing bowls and ramekins. I often give the ramekin set of 4 as gifts.
  7. The book called Bake. It’s a beautiful book with recipes from around the world.  Another alternative is Annie Bell’s Baking Bible. I can attest to both books.

Mother’s Day: 33 ideas on how to treat MOM

A lovely day out! Going out to a farm or a restuarant with a view. Make sure to take a few pictures.

A lovely morning in. Let mom sleep in then wake up gently without any screaming 😉 then breakfast of her choice maybe on her own followed by a good cup or tea or coffee and a magazine to read with her hot beverage.

Nail polish. Def going to order some of these. I’m a big fan of Essie and OPI.

Perfume. You have to know your partner, mom or female relative very well to buy perfume. If you’ve got access go look at what she already has and this will give you a good indication of what she likes.

Music. I love a good CD. Yes it’s old school but I love it. I know how to use a CD player, it can go in the car when it’s just me and the kids and I feel it supports the artists too (how nice am I hey). Ah, imagine my husband made me a mixed-tape-CD. I would love that!

A mani or a pedi. Need I say more?

A gift voucher for her favourite shop because it’s not about the amount it’s about the fact that you’re implicitly saying ‘go buy yourself something’ and ‘go out and do something for you’ and ‘this is not to be spent on me or the kids’. It’s so much more than just a voucher 😉

An experience you know she’d love whether it be a high tea with her bestie, a surfing lesson or a movie ticket it’ll be the time out she needs.

A family photograph shoot. I don’t know any mom that thinks she has enough good quality pics of her family.

Personalized jewellery or nice earrings. Most women loves pretty things.

If your mom has plenty of jewellery then a stunning jewelry box could work or a trinket box for her to put her really special pieces in, I used to have a silver one with a velvet interior and it was so beautiful. Very special.

Set of gorgeous comfortable pjs. Winter is coming and we all want to feel warm and cuddly when it’s cold outdoors.

Flowers but maybe flowers and a vase or a potted plant that she can keep for a while. I would say orchid but I don’t know what type of genius you have to be to keep an orchid alive.

Beautiful candles or diffusers. I love these and can never convince my husband to get them so Mothers Day is the perfect excuse for me to get my full. You got to get the good quality ones.

A handbag. Which woman doesn’t love a handbag!? But keep it simple, stick with one colour (black, tan, white, dark blue or brown) and simple style (tote, messenger bag or hobo). If you’re a dad reading this maybe ask a female friend or relative for help 😉

A card from the kids or a card with the kids’ handprints or footprints. The inner creative in me says all you need is child + paint + card = magic.

If Mom is a reader you could get her a book or a kindle or a magazine subscription.

For mom’s that wear scarves or pashminas you will agree with me that you can never have enough. So, a good quality scarf or pashmina is always a good option.

A custom photobook. There are hundreds of places that do this now and you don’t even need a computer at home – most good sites have an app you can download and then you can use the photos off your phone. So easy!

A nespresso machine. It has been my lifesaver! If that’s out the budget just get a gorgeous mug (or two) and fill it with ready made cuppachino sachets, coupled with a classy packet of biscuits that could make one very happy mom.

Box set of her favourite series. There are a few I have been addicted to over the years and would watch them a thousand times over.

An angel from Willowtree. Each one has a unique character and name to accompany it.

Bath pampering – bath salts, bubble bath, body butter and hand cream.

Champagne. Although I’m not sure I’d ever get the chance to enjoy it again but it would be Pink Moët Chandon for me 😉

A stylish phone cover case or key chain. Both accompany things mom carries every single day of her life.

Some super special chocolates or delicacies all beautifully packaged. I’m thinking macaroons from Zumbo or chocolates from Adora.

Personalized necklace with children’s names or birthdates.

A thick and fluffy dressing gown or slippers. If you’re reading this in the northern hemisphere then a lightweight dressing gown would be great.

Any beautiful home decor item she’s had her eye on. There is a very fine line here – you have to make sure it’s something she wants and wasn’t going to buy herself and not something she will open and think ‘oh gee a gift for the house, how dull’

With coloring in being the rage at the moment you could always go with a colouring in book (for adults) and some beautiful crayons. You get some really fancy crayons, I’ve even see Andy Warhol inspired crayons.

For the super sporty mom a Fitbit may be the answer or a mom who just wants to count her steps, I’m the latter 🙂

An appointment with the hairdresser or just a cut and blow wave – every mom feels better with good hair!

Let mom have a nap and bake her a cake. I love cake and it tastes even better when it’s made with love from the kids (and half the batter on the floor).

Regardless of the above, all a mom really wants is to know that she is loved and appreciated. So if you just tell her that, it’ll be gift enough!
